Here is in for of my group show

We are exhibiting group show of Japanese contemporary Jewelry at this event.

The four of us met through our interests in contemporary jewelry and a shared common compassion for art. Some of us are based in the U.S, others are in Japan, working on expressing our individual point of views and subject matter. Our first exhibition will take place in Gallery Chez M in Washington DC.

As we were in the process of finalizing the plan for this exhibition, the Great East Japan Earthquake occurred and left a massive impact on the world. Each of us deeply contemplated what we can do as Japanese nationals and also as artists to over come this incident since then. The answer was to channel all of our ability as artists to our creations for rising awareness of Japanese artists.

This is our starting point of exhibiting our work to the world.

この度 Japaneseコンテンポラリージュエリーのグループ展を開催致します。私達はジュエリーを通して出会い交流を深め、４人それぞれの視点・感覚で日本、アメリカを拠点に制作活動を行なってきました。第一回目となる今回の展示会は、ワシントンDCにあるGellary Chez Mにて行います。展示会の計画の最中、未曾有の災害が日本を襲い、世界中に大きな衝撃を与えました。日本人として、アーティストとして私達にいったい何ができるのか。その日をさかいに悩み、考え、もう一度自分自身と向き合い、自分に出来る事を最大限にする事が私たちがするべき事と考え、今回の展示会に向けて制作してきました。私達はこの展示会をスタート地点として、これからも各地で展示を行い世界に向けて自分たちの作品を発信していきます。

These are one of the first rings I have made since I started working metals. Top is "untitled" with a stone my friend gave me (not sure what it is...). Bottom is called "Screwed".

This is a work I did for a class project: making jewelry from materials that you can get in GLOSSARY store with budget of $15. I used egg carton and made neck piece.

I was chosen as one of the finalist of fiber wearable category of student Niche award. I'll find out the winner on Feb 15th at reception in Philadelphia.

My Jewelry

I am often inspired by human desire, emotion and social issue that I experience in everyday life. I explore these subjects by paying attention to the material, gesture and the placement on the body as a jewelry artist. I intend to incorporate irony, provocative ness and humor in my work. I would like viewer to laugh at what I created and what I chose as subject, and then discover the message in the piece if they choose to do so.
